    Oily and Blemish-Prone Skin

    No one needs a shiny skin, especially since excess sebum production results in extremely sensitive and irritable skin.

    What is the problem?

    Acne is related to abnormal skin sensitivity to reproductive hormones. Even though the factors influencing hormonal activity vary between teenagers and adults, the subsequent formation of comedones (blackheads) and microcysts (whiteheads) is similar.

    No one needs a shiny skin, especially since excess sebum production results in extremely sensitive and irritable skin. An oily skin that is exposed to bacterial proliferation and the risk of inflammation can easily become an acne-prone skin.

    Usually hyperseborrhoea or excessive sebum production disappears spontaneously, but for some people, it can persist throughout life. Since sebum secretion is hormone-dependant, the various periods in life when there is a change in androgen hormones (adolescence, pre-menopause) are particularly prone to the appearance of hyperseborrhoea.

    Factors that encourage hyperseborrhea:

    Heredity

    Some people have predetermined genetic hypersensitivity of the sebaceous cells to androgens resulting in hyperseborrhoea.

    Inappropriate cosmetics

    When unsuitable or aggressive skin care products are used on the skin, reactional seborrhoea can occur. This happens when there is depletion of the lipids in the skin’s hydrolipid film.

    Particular diseases or various hormonal disorders

    There are many effective dermatological treatments available. Adjunctive dermocosmetics can also be used to purify the skin and reduce skin irritation due to certain medications.

    Oily skin (hyperseborrhea)

    Under the influence of androgenic hormones, the sebaceous glands situated at the base of the hair follicle increase in volume and begin to secrete more sebum which gives the skin a shiny aspect, an oily appearance. Make-up does not hold as well…

    Characteristics:
    • Breakthrough shine;
    • Excess sebum;
    • Enlarged pores ;
    • Uneven skin texture;
    • Prone to blackheads.
    Your specific answer:

    Oily skin is fragile and requires appropriate skin care products. Non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic Eau Thermale Avène products for oily skin aimed at preventing sebum retention caused by occlusion. They are also aimed at rebalancing, purifying and clearing the skin and reducing shine.

    To combat hyperseborrhoea, you must:
    • Eliminate and absorb excess sebum;
    • Avoid aggravation by repeated cleansing which could cause reactional seborrhoea.

    In addition, a purifying mask with an absorbent base and/or a scrub/cleansing cream can be used once a week to brighten the complexion, like the triple action care Exfoliating and Absorbing Cleansing Mask, from the Cleanance line (available in August 2009). The Cleanance Concealer pencil eis the ideal care to conceal and correct a pimple, a lesion, blackheads or any other cutaneous imperfection.

    Blemish-prone skin

    Excess sebum can lead to dermatological infections such as blackheads, acne and seborrheic dermatitis. Oily, blemish-prone skin can turn into a pathological condition.

    The accumulation of dead cells in the sebaceous canal obstructs the skin’s pores and results in the development of microcomedones that grow in size and either open externally to become comedones or blackheads, or remain closed to become microcysts or whiteheads.

    Characteristics:
    • Excess sebum;
    • Blackheads;
    • Some papules.
