    Researchers observed that among the 12000 smokers and ex-smokers they interviewed, more than a third said they changed to light cigarettes to protect their health. What a strange concept! In fact, these smokers appeared to be comfortable in their habit and not have any intention of quitting. According to a recent study, people who smoke “light” or “mild” cigarettes appear to be 50% less likely to quit than those who smoke regular cigarettes.

    Cigarettes are said to be light if they release less nicotine and chemical toxins when a special device analyzes their smoke. In real life however, people who smoke lights inhale similar amounts of nicotine and other chemical compounds, whichever brand they choose. Experts say this is due to the fact that those who smoke lights tend to inhale more deeply or smoke more cigarettes a day to get more nicotine. Since their launch on the market in the 60’s, light cigarettes have gained popularity and now account for about 85% of all cigarettes sold in the States.

    Clearly, so-called mild or light cigarettes are not any better for your health. In fact, several studies have shown that they are just as deadly as regular cigarettes. What we did not know was how they affected smoking cessation. We now know that several smokers believe these cigarettes are less dangerous and that they don’t have to quit just yet… Don’t be fooled! Whatever they’re called, cigarettes are all deadly. The only thing you can do to improve your health is quit altogether.
