Should I give my 6-year old Tylenol if Motrin stops working after 2 hours? If yes, how, and how much?
Karina Savoie Pharmacist
You can combine both of these medications. However, it is important to respect the recommended dosing intervals: 4 hours between doses for Tylenol (a maximum of 5 doses per 24 hours) and 8 hours between doses for Motrin. You can alternate between Tylenol and Advil to help alleviate symptoms even more.

Make sure you follow each medication’s instructions based on your child’s weight. These instructions are located on the side of the medication’s packaging. You can also contact your pharmacist who can accurate calculate the dosage for you.

Other non-pharmaceutical measures can be taken to reduce your child’s fever:

-Lukewarm baths (water temperature between 29°C and 32°C)
-Cold compresses
-Ambient temperature between 20°C and 21°C
-Make sure your child is not dressed too warmly
-Make sure your child drinks a lot of water

If the fever does not subside after 72 hours or your child has no appetite or is cranky, irritable or sluggish, make sure you consult a doctor!
The pharmacist is solely responsible for the answer.
