Makeup tips for mature skin
We often hear older women mention that they don't want to wear makeup anymore because they are past their prime or that they need to wear thicker makeup to hide the fine lines and traces of the past. What is the best way to make your face look good past the age of 50? Here are a few tips and tricks that can help you with your makeup routine.
Adapt your skincare routine
We always suggest a good skincare routine before applying makeup, no matter what your age. Throughout your life, your skin will go through many changes, so it is important to take the time to observe the changes, and, most importantly, to modify and choose the right products. Caring for your skin should be based on your needs as well as your skin type and condition. Moisturized skin will be more receptive to makeup and will help it last longer.
Dazzle with a luminous complexion
This is definitely the most important step in makeup and even more so as you get older. A fresh and luminous complexion is beautiful. How to achieve it? It is important to select concealers, foundations, BB creams, and CC creams with a fluid, light texture. Also, we recommend products that will improve the skin's texture and have ingredients that will reflect light. The thicker and heavier the product, the more it will be felt and seen on the skin. Fine lines and skin texture will be even more accentuated as well. Opt for moisturizing formulas with translucency that will not only make application easier but also better match your skin tone.
Avoid matte finishes and excess powder
It is often recommended to use powder after applying your complexion and concealer to increase staying power and prevent makeup from slipping on your skin. That said, the applica-tion should always be done as needed and not as an automatic process. Also, if you decide to use a powder, we suggest you use it sparingly and opt for translucent loose powders. They are much silkier, finer and more delicate than pressed powder. In addition, the "powdery" ef-fect will be less noticeable.
Pro tip
If you ever feel and see too much powder on your face, use a moisturizing face spray or thermal water. You'll be back to a hydrated, luminous finish in seconds!
Open your eyes
With age, the eyelid will lose some tone and will tend to droop. The makeup techniques and products should therefore open up and enlarge your eyes. After all, you want people to notice the sparkle in your eyes.
Opt for a lengthening mascara to open up your eyes. Avoid applying too much product and even comb your lashes after application to avoid clumping.
Don’t use black pencils and liquid liners because they are much too severe and tend to weigh down the eyes. You can replace them with a brown pencil for a little definition. Apply it mainly on the upper and outer corners of the eyes to create a lift. Then, blend the pencil lines for a softer and more natural effect.
In terms of eyeshadows, neutral colours with matte and/or slightly luminous textures will be more appropriate and flattering on the eyes. Don’t go for anything too glittery or metallic because that kind of texture will only accentuate the fine lines around the eyes and on the eye-lids.
Give more volume to your lips
Lips become thinner as we age. That's why products that reflect light or are slightly plumping will make your mouth seem fuller. Glosses and tinted lip balms are excellent options; you’ll love their moisturizing, comfort and natural effects. Avoid colours that are too bright or too dark with a matte finish, as this will only make the lips look even thinner.
Add colour to eyebrows
Eyebrows frame your look, so it's important to give them a little love. A few strokes of a pencil, a brow powder as a base colour, or simply a tinted gel to give more volume are a few simple steps you take take that will bring a breath of fresh air to your eyes.
Pro tip
Always choose a shade that is lighter than your hair when purchasing eyebrow makeup. The result will be softer and more natural. An eyebrow that is too made up and/or too dark will only harshen and weigh down your look.
Adopt a makeup routine for mature skin
Now you've got everything you need to look young and glow. All you have to do is change your old habits and welcome more malleable, lighter products into your routine. Don't hesitate to ask your cosmetician for help if you're afraid of change. They will help you find exactly the stellar look you want!
