Wound care, dressing changes Some wounds may require special attention to promote good healing and avoid infection. A nurse is able to provide you with appropriate care and help you to heal your wounds. You can also have your dressings changed on site. Foot care A nurse specializing in foot care can perform a foot health check, treat corns, cracks, dry heels, do nail care, assess diabetic foot and ensure good hygiene for your feet. Samples (blood test, cultures, etc.) A nurse can take all the samples requested by the doctor, including a blood test, urine collection, stool culture, etc. Ear cleaning Ear washing consists in dislodging the earwax plug accumulated in the ear canal. Using appropriate equipment, a nurse will painlessly remove this build-up of wax from your ears. Wart treatment A plantar wart is a contagious viral infection that is most often not serious, but which can be painful. A nurse can apply a treatment that helps remove warts. Administration of drugs A healthcare professional may administer a prescribed medication subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Suture or staple removal A nurse specializing in wound care will remove your stitches or staples necessary for healing. Ostomy care For patients with ostomies, a nurse can provide appropriate care and make changes to specialized dressings (collars, collection bags). Perfusion A nurse will inject your medication that has been previously prescribed by your doctor. Cryotherapie A nurse can, under certain conditions, apply a product that freezes the skin and can help treat different skin problems. Contraceptive Implant (Nexplanon) – Insertion and Removal The contraceptive implant is a safe, effective, long acting method of birth control. With a prescription, our nurse can insert or remove the Nexplanon contraceptive implant directly at the pharmacy. She can also provide follow-up care and answer your questions to support your contraceptive care. Foot Care – Corns, Calluses and Seed Corns Foot care services at the pharmacy treat corns, calluses and seed corns. A nurse specialized in foot care can relieve pain, improve walking comfort and help prevent complications related to these foot conditions. Personalized foot care advice is also available. Fetal DNA Test (Non Invasive Prenatal Screening) Using a simple blood sample from the mother, the fetal DNA test can assess the risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus, including trisomy 21, 18 and 13. It can also determine the sex of the fetus starting at 10 weeks of pregnancy. After confirming the gestational age by ultrasound, your doctor may prescribe this screening test. The blood sample can then be collected directly at our pharmacy by a nurse. Birth control follow-up For patients with ostomies, our nurses can provide proper care and change special dressings including ostomy flanges and pouches. STBBI screening (sexually transmissible and blood-borne infections) Nurses will conduct urine screenings to test for STBBIs. Allergy desensitization Immunotherapy, or desensitization, is a method used to reduce the intensity of allergy symptoms. The idea is to gradually administer small amounts of allergens subcutaneously so the body learns to be more tolerant of them. Our nurses can administer the injections. Pap smear A pap smear involves taking a small cell sample from the cervix. The cells are then viewed under a microscope to see if they are normal or abnormal. The test is quick and painless and allows healthcare professionals to screen for and diagnose precancerous conditions or cervical or vaginal cancer. Wound Care – Sutures or Tissue Adhesive Our nurse can assess your wound to determine the most appropriate treatment. Based on this evaluation, you may be referred to another healthcare service if needed, or the wound may be closed directly using sutures or a medical tissue adhesive. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test A blood test used to screen for type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes in pregnant women. Multiple blood samples are taken before and after drinking a glucose solution. Fasting is required prior to the test. Ingrown Toenail Care An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, redness, and sometimes infection. Our team can assess your condition, recommend the appropriate treatment and refer you to a healthcare professional if needed. Blood Draw – Children (12 years and under) A blood draw can be a stressful experience for children. Our nurse takes the time needed to make your child feel comfortable, which is why the appointment may take a little longer than for an adult. A prescription previously obtained from your doctor or an authorized healthcare professional is required to access this service. Cryotherapy (Liquid Nitrogen) – Skin Lesion Treatment (keratosis, skin tags, molluscum) Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy is an effective and well-established method for removing certain benign skin lesions, including keratosis, skin tags (acrochordons) and molluscum contagiosum. The treatment involves applying extreme cold directly to the lesion, precisely destroying the targeted cells. The procedure is quick, requires no anesthesia and is generally well tolerated. A medical prescription is required prior to receiving this service. Foreign Body Removal – Splinter, Glass or Other A wood splinter, glass shard or any other small foreign body lodged under the skin can cause pain, discomfort and risk of infection if not properly removed. Our nurse performs the removal safely, precisely and under the best hygienic conditions to prevent any complications.
