General awareness of prostate cancer has grown considerably in the last few years and Movember is one of the reasons.
Movember is a foundation dedicated to men’s general health, with a particular focus on prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Founded in 2003, this global movement has collected hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for a variety of projects related to men’s health. Men raise money for the organization by growing a mustache in November. Numerous public figures and media personalities have grown mustaches during the month of November to promote the cause of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one of the most common male cancers. In Canada, one out of eight men will get prostate cancer during his lifetime. Fortunately, research and scientific and medical discoveries like those supported by Movember have led to significant advances in our understanding of the disease and our ability to screen for and treat it. If you know someone who’s taking part in the Movember campaign by growing a big, bushy mustache, make sure you support them!
