There are many types of contraceptives available to both men and women today, including barrier methods and hormonal methods. Some options are long term or even permanent, and others need to be used every day.


Birth control methods

Conception occurs if a male's sperm successfully penetrates a female's egg following sexual intercourse. Pregnancy ensues if the fertilized egg manages to implant itself into the uterus. The goal of birth control (also known as contraception) is to prevent pregnancy by stopping sperm from reaching the egg, or by preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg.
