5 tips for meal prep
Are you ever exhausted like me at the end of a workday, without any energy and starving to death?
The last thing you want to do is cook!
The solution? Meal prep or preparing meals in advance.
Although this idea may seem daunting to some, there' s not a lot of extra work involved when you're already cooking meals.
Here are 5 tips to optimize meal prep sessions.
1- Schedule time to cook
It is important to set aside time during the week for cooking.
Sunday works well for most people since it is the weekend. Also, because it is the day before Monday, the meals stay fresh throughout the week.
2- Group favourite recipes together
Keeping a list of your favorite recipes on hand allows you to pick a few of them quickly for the weeks ahead.
3- Prepare a grocery list
Do a quick scan of the chosen recipes to complete the list of items to be bought. This prevents you from buying items that are already in your pantry and refrigerator.
4- Double or triple the recipes
This allows you to cook only once a week and sometimes even freeze the extra for future meals.
Usually, double or triple all the ingredients, but you will have to adjust the spices and seasonings downward.
As for cooking, of course, the duration does not double, but can increase. It is therefore important to check regularly.
5- Strategically select ingredients
Finally, it is beneficial to get ingredients that can be used in many recipes. One way to do this is to look for discounts on the flyers to save money.
For example, if you need to use quinoa in a recipe to accompany a dish, you can cook more of it and use it in a salad.
The same leafy green vegetable could be used in pasta, in a stir-fry or even in a soup.
