How to make your grandmother's recipes healthier?

We all have favourite recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. It’s fairly easy to improve them so that they’re more nutritious.

Rely on these recipe conversions to improve Grandma's recipes!

Here are some easy substitutes:

*Psst! Substitutions are always equal, unless otherwise noted.

Sour cream

Plain Greek yogurt (2% fat or less); Cottage cheese.

Butter (preferably without salt)

Liquid fatty substance (vegetable oil, unsweetened applesauce…) ;.

Light butter

*You can use half the butter in most simple recipes.

White sugar

  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Dates
  • Ripe bananas

*You can use half the sugar in most recipes.

Egg

  • 1 half a ripe banana
  • 60 ml - ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 45 ml - 3 tbsp. whipped aquafaba (liquid found in canned legumes)

Egg white

30 ml - 2 tbsp. whipped aquafaba

35% whipping cream

  • Cooking cream, 15% fat or less
  • Milk.

*Cannot be replaced in the case of whipped cream.
